When trucking attorney Ted Perryman was arguing a case in court last October, he brought with him a secret weapon.

“The plaintiff’s expert was on the stand, and he actually paid me a compliment,” Perryman explained. “He said, ‘You know quite a bit about trucking.’ I’ve also had experts tell me before depositions: ‘Well you must do a lot of trucking work, because you know what a pre-trip is, what different parts of the truck are and how to drive.'”  Read more here.

Trucking: Embark Self-Driving Truck Completes Coast-to-Coast Test Run

Trucking: FMCSA: Carriers Stymied by PeopleNet AOBRD Issue May Seek Exemption

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is considering a request by one motor carrier for a one-year exemption from electronic logging rules so that its AOBRD/ELD provider can provide a specific type of software as having been made “on behalf of all motor carriers in similar situations concerning the integration of PeopleNet’s ELD software into fleet management systems.”  Read more here.

Trump calls for $1.5 trillion infrastructure bill, faster permitting at State of Union

President Trump called on Congress to produce an infrastructure bill of at least $1.5 trillion, and to ease the regulatory review process during his first State of the Union address.

He said the effort to modernize every aspect of the nation’s infrastructure is what “our economy needs and people deserve.”  Read more here.

For Trucking Industry, Optimism Abounds

There is much reason for the trucking industry to be optimistic as we enter 2018. For one, freight levels have improved significantly for the industry.
