Truck driver pay to continue to rise – Industry short 50k drivers

Driver pay will likely continue to rise in the coming decade as fleets work to attract new drivers to the industry to fill the gap of an alleged driver shortage that could grow to as high as 175,000 in the next 10 years, says the American Trucking Associations in a report issued Oct. 6.  Read more here.

2015 Trucking Industry Perspectives

Trucking companies responding to Inbound Logistics‘ 2015 Trucking Perspectives survey by and large see an economy on the make—54 percent expect static growth in the near term, while 40 percent see the economy trending upward. Only six percent forecast conditions getting worse. Read more here.

Trucking Industry Rolling Along Toward Autonomous Trucks

Government officials in Germany have given the OK for Daimler Trucks to test out its autonomous trucks in highways in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, where Daimler’s Stuttgardt headquarters is located, according to reports in ZDNet and DW.com.  Read more here.

Trucking Industry Safety and New Technology

Heavy truck accidents account for 3,800 fatal crashes a year, 3,900 deaths annually, 100,000 injuries, and 13% of all traffic fatalities. That’s according to Daniel Blower, an associate research scientist at the University of Michigan’s transportation Research Institute.  According to Blower, those numbers really aren’t that high, and there’s technology out there that can drive them down even more.  Read more here.

According to E-ZPass, an international phishing scheme is being targeted at customers and non-customers.  The phishing scheme comes in the form of an email claiming to be from E-ZPass stating that the email receiver has a missed or unpaid toll.  Read more here.
