With the new ELD mandate going into effect in less than a year, trucking companies will be dealing with a very different regulatory landscape. All interstate motor carriers will be required to have their trucks equipped with electronic logging devices by December, and truck drivers will have to switch over to electronic logbooks for their HOS logs.

Trump to trucking: Tax reform a boon for carriers, drivers and industry at large

Propose Law Requiring Sleep Apnea Testing for Truck Drivers

Senator’s Charles Schumer and Cory Booker have announced new legislation that would require the U.S. Department of Transportation to test train operators and commercial bus and truck drivers for obstructive sleep apnea.  Read more here.

Ohio Bills Would Spend $8 Million To Train New Truck Drivers

The Ohio lawmakers say that their state is so desperate for truck drivers that they are considering bills that would funnel millions of dollars into truck driver training programs. Republican and Democratic lawmakers have come together to address what they call a workforce shortage in the trucking industry. They have introduced a package of four bills intended to attract more qualified workers into the state’s trucking jobs. Read more here.

Trucking named one of the top 10 deadliest jobs in the U.S.

New data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics proves that trucking is one of the most dangerous jobs in America.  According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015 was the deadliest year for U.S. workers since 2008, with 4,836 employees dying on the job. In 2008, 5,214 were killed on the job.  Read more here.

Van freight ‘unseasonably strong,’ reefer holding — rates haven’t followed up with volumes

Van freight didn’t see a big boost in the last full week of October, but load posts started rising at the end of the week, with an extra surge on Halloween. The month as a whole was strong compared to last year.  Read more here.
