Top States for Small Trucking Companies and Truck Drivers

Alternative financing organization Merchant Cash USA surveyed 3,287 individuals involved in the trucking industry to find out where they thought the best and the worst states to be a trucker or own a trucking company were. The survey included asking questions such as cost of parking overnight, certain fees and regulations in particular states, if location in the U.S. mattered, and how friendly states are to drivers. How clever cops catch mobile phone users – even truckers

The disheveled man stood at the busy intersection holding a handwritten cardboard sign that many drivers didn’t read. And it cost them plenty. It was a trap. Montgomery County Police Sgt. Phillip Chapin and about eight other officers issued a total of 56 tickets county-wide in one recent day, including 31 tickets and 9 warnings to people caught using their phones without hands-free devices.  Read more here.

EPA Fines Trucking Company For Not Using Diesel Particulate Filters

A Virginia trucking company will pay $100,000 to the Environmental Protection Agency and an additional $290,000 to California in the first federal enforcement of the state’s Truck and Bus Regulation.  Read more here.

Truck driver pay to continue to rise – Industry short 50k drivers

Driver pay will likely continue to rise in the coming decade as fleets work to attract new drivers to the industry to fill the gap of an alleged driver shortage that could grow to as high as 175,000 in the next 10 years, says the American Trucking Associations in a report issued Oct. 6.  Read more here.

2015 Trucking Industry Perspectives

Trucking companies responding to Inbound Logistics‘ 2015 Trucking Perspectives survey by and large see an economy on the make—54 percent expect static growth in the near term, while 40 percent see the economy trending upward. Only six percent forecast conditions getting worse. Read more here.
