Trucking – FMCSA makes some hours exemptions permanent

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has retroactively adopted several regulations required by the FAST Act highway bill dealing mainly with exemptions.  Read more here.

Truckers – Michigan set to begin roadside drug testing pilot program

The state of Michigan will implement a pilot program later this year that will allow police to conduct roadside saliva tests to determine the presence of drugs in a driver’s system.  Read more here.

Freight TSI Up for 2nd Month

The Freight Transportation Services Index, which is based on the amount of freight carried by the for-hire transportation industry, rose 0.2 percent in May from April, rising for the second consecutive month, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The May 2016 index level (121.8) was 28.6 percent above the April 2009 low during the most recent recession.  Read more here.
